Manage feelings of being overwhelmed
In those moments when you feel overwhelmed try this technique to help you feel in control again.
What’s the thought that’s making you feel overwhelmed? e.g ‘I have too much to do.’
Choose another thought that you can think? (an empowering calming thought that can take your anxiety level down) e.g. ‘I always get overwhelmed if I don’t have a plan, or it always gets done’.
The new thought does not need to be the opposite to the original thought, it just needs to be something that you believe and that helps you feel calmer and in control. If you get stuck just think ‘I can come up with a plan.’
The brain gets overwhelmed when we try to make and execute the plan at the same time, so just tell yourself that you’ll get a plan.
